XR interaction

XR interaction without limits is a regional project that uses film, XR and VR technologies to promote inclusion, accessibility, and intercultural dialogue among young people from Serbia, Kosovo, and North Macedonia. The project created opportunities for young participants to learn about immersive storytelling, engage with regional films, and explore how new technologies can support empathy, representation, and cultural participation.

A series of 11 workshops were implemented through 9 online sessions, combining film screenings, discussions with directors, and introductory learning about XR and immersive storytelling. Participants watched 10 films from Serbia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Albania, followed by Q&A sessions with filmmakers and moderated discussions on creative process, narrative, technical solutions, and regional themes.

The project also included two curated XR exhibitions, held in Požega during the Interaction Festival and in Pristina during the Art Without Limit Festival, presented 10 different XR and VR works from Argentina, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Netherlands, France and UK, addressing disability, neurodiversity, mental health, communication, accessibility, and inclusion. In Požega, the exhibition attracted more than 700 visitors over six days, while the Pristina edition gathered around 60 visitors. Both exhibitions were attended by different community representatives, including youth with disabilities.

Public lectures in Požega and Pristina explored the potential of VR for the inclusion of persons with disabilities, offering practical and artistic perspectives on accessibility in immersive media. In Pristina, the programme also included a panel discussion on youth dialogue and cooperation in the Western Balkans, bringing together young people, cultural workers, activists, and representatives of minority communities.

The project strengthened regional cooperation through peer-to-peer learning between festival teams. Partners exchanged knowledge on how to organise XR exhibitions, how to make film festivals more accessible to persons with disabilities, and how to transfer practical experience to other cultural organisations. A video tutorial on organising and installing XR exhibitions was also produced as an open educational resource.

By connecting young people, artists, festivals, and accessibility-focused organisations, XR Interaction Without Limits demonstrated how immersive technologies can support inclusion, empathy, and cultural dialogue across the Western Balkans.

Implementing partners: Independent Film Centre Filmart (Serbia), Art Without Limit (Kosovo), Association for Media Literacy Planet-M (North Macedonia).

"XR interaction without limits project" was supported by the British Council through the “Culture and Creativity for the Western Balkans” project, funded by the European Union. CC4WBs aims to foster dialogue in the Western Balkans by enhancing the cultural and creative sectors for increased socio-economic impact.
